Leather is the kind of natural material that throughout its long lifetime it ages in a beautiful manner.

Why Do We Choose Leather?

There are many types of leather out there, and here at Snekkerbuks we feel that bovine leather is the most suitable material for our products.

There are many advantages to using leather as a product material. First and foremost, we use leather because it is a sustainable, natural material that has a lot of unique natural qualities that other materials cannot provide, such as a high tear resistance, durability and suppleness, especially when the leather is of high quality.

Another natural quality to leather is that it is temperature regulating, therefore breathable and prevents sweating. Aside from that, leather is also water and dirt repellent, which altogether these natural qualities make it the perfect material for our children’s dungarees and sandals!

An additional great advantage: leather is timeless! Leather has always been a material consistently in fashion and reflects quality in a consumer’s lifestyle. Therefore, a timeless material incorporated into products that are aimed to be created from timeless designs. This reflects our value to always try to create innovative solutions and how we value the craftsmanship in our product.

Overall, when good quality leather is in play, leather products are often a good investment to make. Leather is also the kind of natural material that throughout its long lifetime it ages in a beautiful manner, therefore we often like to refer to our products as ‘companions for life’.

Here at Snekkerbuks, we only use 100% eco-friendly produced bovine leather, meaning that it is leather produced using processes that are safe for the environment.

The production to leather does not consist of chemicals that harm our land, oceans and rivers. In fact, because it is a natural material, leather is even biodegradable. Though some chemicals are used in the treatment to leather, it is beyond comparable to the amount of chemicals used to produce synthetic materials, that aside from the production are also unable to acquire the natural qualities that leather has to offer, such as its breathability.

Our leather is purchased exclusively from certified German leather retailers who meet the stringent legal requirements of the German leather industry with regard to environmentally leather production and maximum ecological quality.

All leathers used have the quality mark RAL-GZ 430 of the Association of the German leather industry – the strictest and most extensive eco-label for leather and its production. Furthermore, the leathers used comply with the European REACH regulations, which preclude the use of harmful substances in the tanning process.
